No conventional alternative to poor internet connectivity
Once an old factory on Broadway and Canal, the headquarters for the Infatuation offered limited connectivity. Spectrum was the only broadband available. Because of aging hardware at street level, outages were common. Midday internet brownouts left the staff hanging in the middle of their work. “Do we work out of a Starbucks? Run to AT&T and buy six hotspots?” With only five tenants in the building, no fiber provider was interested in providing service.
Internet from the sky, installed in record time
Instead of running dark fiber from the street, JS Tech contracted with a fixed wireless provider to deliver internet from the rooftop. Time was of the essence to replace the failing Spectrum connection. An installation team came out to survey the day after the contract was signed, and the service was fully installed within two weeks of signing – a feat that would have taken months for fiber. Best of all, the Infatuation still benefits from an ultra high speed and low latency connection at a great price.
Data vulnerable on standalone external hard drives
As a rapidly-growing ad agency and production house, Identity Media is constantly generating digital content. Every hour of video adds hundreds of gigabytes to their collection. The footage is irreplaceable, and must be accessed by multiple parties at once for post-production tasks.
Identity had been storing footage on an army of external hard drives. The drives were configured for RAID0, doubling the possibility for data loss on each. Editors had to share drives to work on different parts of production, and no backup measures were in place. This imposed time-related costs, as well as high potential for data loss.
Storage system protects footage and allows for resource sharing
JS Tech replaced Identity’s independent drives with a single, network-accessible storage cluster. Their team uses Adobe Premiere with the system, sharing HD video clips and 4k raw footage. Off-site backup to AWS protects against accidental deletion and catastrophic failure. Drive, network, and power redundancy ensure as close to 100% uptime as possible. And, should anything go wrong, Identity’s team and JS Tech receive notifications via email. In many cases, the device can heal itself with zero downtime.
Triptent began working with JS Tech as a break/fix client, when their accountant found us in a woman’s magazine in 2012. Employees of the ad agency called frequently with crashes and file system issues. For each issue, JS Tech dispatched a tech billed an hourly rate. As each problem was fixed, it seemed that a new issue would crop up to take its place.
Tech drives business forward and increases productivity
When JS Tech on-boarded Triptent, we installed antivirus and proactive maintenance software on every computer. Overnight, the volume of house calls plummeted. Focus shifted from fixing the problem du jour to strategic planning of tech related to company workflows. JS Tech made strides in production and storage protocols, backup and recovery, fleet management, wi-fi, and other areas that could have been neglected putting out break/fix fires. Today, JS Tech holds regular office hours at Triptent’s offices to maintain systems, train users, and brainstorm new ideas to drive productivity.
